F3 Welcomes New Executive Director, Cynthia White!

Friends of Flagstaffs Future has a new asset in Cynthia White, its new Executive Director! Friends of Flagstaffs Future works to sustain Flagstaffs high quality of life through activism and advocacy of values supporting a livable community. "F3 steps in and reminds people that it is not all about them – that if we want our community to be prosperous, sustainable and in the end a nice place to live – we have to give thought and care to the common,” states Ben Anderson, F3 member. F3 hired Ms. White following an extensive search and believes that she is the ideal person to lead F3 in making Flagstaff one of the best small towns in America!

Cynthia White has a background in environmental science and social work, and sees her new position with F3 as the perfect culmination of these two career paths. She has long advocated for quality of life, livable wages, sustainability, and transportation, all issues important to F3. As an avid outdoors person who loves the natural beauty of northern Arizona, she believes in preserving and protecting our natural environment. In short, Cynthia is ready to use her management, communication, organizational, and advocacy skills to advance F3s mission and goals. When asked why she was excited about being F3s new Executive Director, Cynthia stated ”I fell in love with Flagstaff when I first moved here five years ago. I realized that if I want to continue to enjoy the quality of life that I have here in Flagstaff, I have to take active steps to make a difference. Being F3s new Executive Director gives me the opportunity to advocate for the things I care about - open space, natural resource preservation, affordable housing, and diverse transportation options such as increased busing and hiking and biking trails."

Co-presidents, Sandra Lubarsky and Sherry Golden explained that, "Cynthia is dynamic, warm and educated on the issues relevant to preserving the unique character of our town. She has been working in the trenches on poverty, housing and transportation issues and knows how to garner public support to initiate change. Both F3 and our community will benefit from Cynthias leadership."

Upcoming events for Friends of Flagstaffs Future include a Roundtable Candidate Forum on April 24th, 7pm at the American Legion Hall, as part of the Taking the Next Step initiative to increase civic participation. As Gay Chanler, an active F3 member and Circle of Friends supporter explains “I have counted on F3 to help me be a good citizen.” The Roundtable Candidate Forum will be a great opportunity to increase citizen awareness and involvement in the political process. To find out more about this opportunity to speak face to face with the city council and mayoral candidates, call 556-8663 or email info@friendsofflagstaff.org.
