Friends of Flagstaff’s Future (F3) is a local, grassroots, member-based, and volunteer-led nonprofit organization. The mission of Friends of Flagstaff’s Future is to achieve a sustainable, just, and thriving Flagstaff through community education, engagement and advocacy.

The Executive Director is the face of the organization and is responsible for the successful leadership and management of the organization according to the strategic direction set by the Board of Directors.


The role of the Executive Director is to develop and implement the organization’s advocacy work, community outreach, and educational programs and events, in a manner that serves the mission and vision of the organization. The Executive Director is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the organization, including managing the organization’s outreach, policy direction, and staff as well as developing strategic plans in collaboration with the Board of Directors.


The Executive Director is accountable to the Board and operates under supervision from the executive committee and the Board President. The Director reports to the board on a regular basis – during each board meeting (monthly), during meetings with a board supervisor, as well as once a year during the Annual Retreat.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Represent and advocate for the goals and positions of F3 with the broader public, elected officials, municipal staff, task forces, community stakeholder groups,
and representatives of relevant organizations.

Maintain an active and visible presence within the community as the leading representative of F3.

Keep abreast of current issues before Council, Commissions, and other civic organizations, relevant to the mission of F3.

Seek creative and innovative solutions and alternatives to issues as appropriate.

Communicate and collaborate with stakeholders and partner organizations

Oversee programs and work with staff, volunteers, and board to implement the organization’s programs, campaigns, and events. Provide direction and prioritization
to staff and intern activities.

Develop and implement fundraising and development activities, including donor relations, membership recruitment, and grant-writing, to support and sustain the operations of F3.

Effectively communicate F3’s mission, positions, and events to donors, volunteers, members, and the community-at-large.

Effectively communicate with the Board and provide all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions,
including monthly financial statements, proposed annual budget, and internal and external issues that affect the organization.

Ensure the  fiscal integrity of F3 and oversee the fiscal management of the operating budget.

Foster a productive and positive work environment and team work ethics among staff and volunteers
.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree.
Demonstrated experience in community organizing and/or advocacy work and an understanding of the processes of legislation, regulation, and policy-making.

Strong organizational abilities, including planning, program development and implementation,  and budget management
.
Experience in fundraising strategies, grant writing, resource development, and donor relations.

Ability to positively engage with internal and external stakeholders
.
Excellent writing and public speaking skills; ability to clearly explain complex issues and effectively communicate them to the public
.
Familiarity with the challenges facing communities like Flagstaff; knowledge of the Flagstaff community.  

Ability to set priorities to meet deadlines effectively
.
Strong work ethic with a high degree of energy.
